meet our team: our esteemed event project managers

We couldn’t do what we do without the guys who make it happen – our event project managers. We are all team players and these chaps are the glue that holds us all together. What they don’t know about producing events isn’t worth knowing. They rock our world and we couldn’t bear to be without them (don’t let them know we said that!).

Meet the guys who are the face of our events: you will know at least one! (In no particular order:)

Ali Robertson, Operations Director

Ali was one of the founding fathers of visionevents and has seen it grow from the humble AV supplier into what it is now; Ali Robertsonnurturing the staff and skills that makes us so strong today. Having slightly diversified his role touching into the Business Development and Marketing area of the company, Ali is crucial to the day-to-day running of the company.

What has been your most memorable moment at VE so far?
Meeting Goldie Hawn at an event – prior to which she forgot to take her mic off and went out for a cigarette and she was still live! Happily only the crew could hear her, but what a gal – dynamite chat!

Where do you spend your Saturdays?
Most likely in my workshop tinkering with my Messerschmitt bubble cars…if I’m allowed.

Where is your favourite holiday destination?
I grew up in West Africa (Cameroon) on a banana plantation, so love going back to Africa when I can – it’s home.

What would you do with a win of 10 million on the Lottery?
Design a custom workshop and have all my bubble cars in individual ‘stables’ and buy a banana plantation … oh and go on a year long (at least) holiday.

Iain Pugh, Project Director

Iain has been at visionevents since 2006 after forging his career in the industry for a number of years, as well as time taken to explore the world.Iain B&W email Having recently been elevated to the heady heights of Project Director, Iain is a very hands on member of our team and manages a number of our key clients.

What has been your most memorable moment at VE so far?
A few years back we were producing a large event from a themed marquee complete with internally lit trees. All our rigging and truss had to go above and through them which was a challenge but looked stunning as a result. Also, what has to be said, is the multitude of times we have pranked our Ops Director, Ali’s hotel room. Think that’s why he stopped coming away on events with us all…he’s just too easy to wind up!

Where do you spend your Saturdays?
Mornings are spent watching my children play sports and afternoons I like to get out for a surf when I can and evenings relaxing with a bottle of red wine or two.

Where is your favourite holiday destination?
Before we had children it was Havana. With children it would have to be Crieff Hydro.

What would you do with a win of 10 million on the Lottery?
In the short term probably the obvious; long holiday, new house, new car and buy a jet ski. Long term make sure family and friends were all looked after and invest some of the millions in visionevents!

Steve Thorpe, Project Director

Steve started his career nearly 20 years ago with visionevents, Steve Thorpeleaving us to spread his wings working for other companies both in UK and abroad and produce some really exciting events. Family commitments saw him settle in Edinburgh and happily Steve came back to us 6 years ago and has never looked back. He manages a number of our large corporate clients.

What has been your most memorable moment at VE so far?
Celebrating the success of a huge event in New York with a pitcher of Mojitos in a typical NYC bar (after the event had finished….naturally!)

Where do you spend your Saturdays?
On a cold school football pitch!

Where is your favourite holiday destination?
Santorini, Greece and Positano on the Amalfi coast of Italy, are 2 of my favourites.

What would you do with a win of 10 million on the Lottery?
Buy a ridiculously huge boat and sail to my favourite holiday destinations.

Paul Anderson, Project Manager

Paul AndersonAfter spending the earlier part of his career managing large scale events at the forefront of the outdoor hospitality industry Paul decided he was far more interested with the production of live events and all that went on behind the scenes. In 2010 he joined Vision events as a junior production technician and quickly built upon his managerial skill set and rose through the company ranks, finding himself with the first of many promotions.

In the following years Paul proved his new found ability throughout all the departments in the audio visual sector including the building of stage sets, rigging and sound but it was lighting and video work which he mostly enjoyed and indeed excelled at. Over the coming years Paul would prove a vital member of the team and would be involved in an array of large scale events throughout Britain and Europe, from worldwide symposiums and corporate conferences to live gigs with some of music’s biggest stars along with numerous award shows and gala dinners.

In his time with vision events he has amassed a wealth of technical knowledge, especially in the world of video and LED which led to him becoming a technical producer, looking after, planning and designing the more complicated events for the company. Currently Paul has progressed to project manager and is now enjoying developing a closer working relationship with his clients.
